PVPS provides comprehensive histopathology services, with results usually available 1-2 business days following delivery. Upon request, limited STAT service is available, and incurs a surcharge. Generally reserved for hospitalized critical care patients, this service is provided as the name states, in the Shortest Turn Around Time possible. Results may be available the same day or early the next business day following delivery. Reports routinely include complete histological description of the lesion and where applicable, evaluation of surgical margins. Pathologist’s comments, recommendations and relevant prognosis information may also be provided.
Our full-service histology laboratory processes tissues and prepares histological slides for routine examination with H&E stains on site using state-of-the-art histology equipment. Slides are often available to the pathologist by the next business day following receipt of the samples. If requested at the time of submission, margin examination of excisional biopsies is included in the standard fee.
PVPS offers cytology services for fine needle aspirates (FNA) as well as impression smear, scraping and imprint preparations. Direct preparations, as well as Cyto-spin® and thin preparations techniques are also utilized for evaluation of fluids and effusions including CSF and synovial fluid samples, pleural, pericardial and abdominal effusions. Turn-around times are comparable to those for surgical biopsy with STAT service available upon request. Reports include diagnosis, cytological description, pathologist’s recommendations and/or relevant prognosis information
Biopsy specimens collected during surgical procedures are evaluated prior to dermatopathology and post mortem cases. Shortest turnaround time (STAT) service is available. Please indicate on the requisition by checking the STAT box. A surcharge is added for STAT service. See Service and Fee Schedule for fees.
Specimens submitted from tissues and organs collected during necropsy examination of an animal at your practice also receive special pricing. The fee varies for 1-7 tissues, and is capped if more than 7 tissue/organs are submitted. Please refer to the Service and Fee Schedule for specific fees.
Comprehensive, legally-defensible necropsy services are provided by PVPS. The necropsy report includes a complete description of gross and histological lesions, morphological diagnosis(es) and/or etiological/disease diagnoses where applicable, as well as pathologist’s comments and opinions. Photographic documentation is included at the pathologist’s discretion. Preliminary results are usually available 2-3 business days following submission. The final report is usually issued within 2-3 weeks following submission unless the examination involves additional testing.
